Tips on Diversity
by Angela Watkins
I am sharing an article that I wrote that was published in a
couple of print tabloids - magazines in 1999. In 1999 I was
41 years old.
CASH IN on the differences of behaviour, ideas, tastes and
all the ways in which we differ. Create a plan to work together
despite differences and watch diversity increase business
- extra opportunities for all.
My thoughts are as follows: Solicitation of ideas to help
become more responsive to today's changing population. Be
willing to learn other cultures and acknowledging the powerful
role of females.
WOMEN: 134 million women represent 52% of the U.S. population
and spend $1.1 trillion on goods and services yearly. 37%
of minority women-owned businesses are owned by Black/African-Americans,
35% are Hispanic and 28% are owned by women of Asian-American,
Indian/Alaska Native heritage* (*Chinese, Korean, American
Filipino, Vietnamese, Other Asian and Pacific Islander, Hawaiian
or Eskimo).
Do not forget about Cananda: There are approximately 703,000
women owned businesses. Women also earn more money today than
ever before. Women in their 40's and 50's need to be more
educated on earning money, starting a part-time business and
saving money.
Women usually are the ones who decorate the home, purchase
nutritional, cleaning and beauty products. Some are wanting
to earn more money.
ASIAN: We have an estimated 10 million Asian-Americans with
spending power of $150 billion yearly. The Asian American
business owners are estimated to have combined yearly funds
of $1.1 trillion.
HISPANICS: 28 million Hispanic Americans spend $235 billion
each year on goods and services. Hispanics estimated spending
on health care products is $40 million.
BLACKS(AFRICAN-AMERICANS): 34 million in the USA have purchasing
power of $400 billion yearly. Clothing, Body Fragrance, Oils,
Jewelry, African American items are hot sellers and Mother's
Day is a Holiday well worth remembering.
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES; Do not overlook the estimated 49
million Americans with physical or mental impairment. They
are spending $100 billion yearly. My mother has MS and she
uses more skin care products that I do. She wears jewelry
and takes pride in her appearance .... THAT'S MONEY FOLKS!
Ahout 11.4 million will retire early, and the jobless rate
is estimated at 70%. About 80% of the disabled would prefer
to be working. Have you ever thought of sending them goods
or services and showing them how easy it could be to have
items they need or use delivered straight to their door? PLEASE
NO SCAMS.
