Facial Wrinkles Naturally-10 Top Tips
by Angie Woods
Your skin is the largest living organ of your body. The outer
layer, called the epidermis, consists of a protective layer of
skin cells that continually shed and give way to new cells.
Below the epidermis are the dermis and hypodermis, two layers
that produce the oil and collagen,to give your skin support,
elasticity, and shine.
As we age, our skin loses moisture and elasticity making
it prone to wrinkles.
Dermatologists have many tools for tackling those little
lines that mark the passage of time. These might include chemical
peels, prescription creams or injections of the toxin Botox,
which paralyses facial muscles temporarily so you can't wrinkle
your skin when you frown.
Is Botox really the best option for you or would you rather
get rid of wrinkles naturally?
The obvious option is to try and protect your skin just as
it is, and to do what you can to keep it healthy.
Tip 1.
Use a lotion or cream that contains alpha-hydroxy acids,
or AHAs. AHAs come from milk, fruit and sugar cane, and act
by clearing away dead cells on the surface of your skin. These
products encourage collagen growth, which helps to fill in
wrinkles. They also attack free radicals - rogue oxygen molecules
in your body that can further damage your skin.
Tip 2.
Pay attention to the ingredients in your skin care products
and try to avoid things that might irritate the skin. Try
rubbing a little of the product on a small patch of skin first
to make sure that it is suitable for you. Potential irritants
can include Menthol, lemongrass, lime, lavender, oils, fragrances
& botanical extracts.
Tip 3.
Exfoliate your skin twice weekly to eliminate dead, dry skin
cells and encourage the growth of healthy new cells. Smooth,
exfoliated skin absorbs moisturiser better and easier to keep
hydrated. Apply a moisturizer every morning after washing
to help retain moisture and make your skin feel softer. Also
moisturize dry skin in cold weather and in dry heat. Dry skin
does not cause additional wrinkles, but wrinkles look worse
when compounded by dry skin!
Tip 4.
Sunscreen is the real fountain of youth. Get into the habit
of applying sunscreen or a lotion with minimum SPF 15 to 30
protection daily. Remember the sun's rays can still be damaging
in winter months as it reflects off snow. Exposure to the
sun damages skin cells and destroys the collagen and elastin
fibres which support your skin, keeping it bouncy. When these
fibres stiffen, the skin droops, and creases into wrinkles.
Tip 5.
Wear sunglasses to avoid "crow's feet" - wrinkles
that come from screwing up your eyes. Existing crow's feet
can actually fade after several month of consistently wearing
sunglasses.
Tip 6.
Some natural products can be used to help lessen the appearance
of wrinkles. Try soaking a clean flannel in milk or aloe vera
gel and apply it to your skin. Milk contains the wrinkle busting
alpha-hydroxy acids and fresh aloe vera gel contains malic
acid. Papayas are useful for getting rid of wrinkles because
they contain enzymes that can help to etch away the top layer
of your skin. Mix the papaya pulp with dry oatmeal to help
exfoliate your skin. Olive-oil based products are also nutrient-rich
for dry and aging skin.
Tip 7.
Watch your diet and drink plenty of clean water. As well
as fresh fruit and vegetables, include plenty of Omega 3 and
6 fatty acids which are essential for healthy skin cell structure.
These can be found in nuts, oily fish, and avocado. Avoid
excess sugar.
Tip 8.
Exercise regularly to maintain overall health and improve
circulation to the skin - this will make you glow.
Tip 9.
Try not to smoke as it interferes with all of your skin's
functioning processes.
Tip 10.
Try to sleep on your back. Sleeping on your side or stomach
can create wrinkles, because your face is buried in the pillow
and the wrinkles become "ironed" onto your skin
as you sleep.
